Is It OK To Eat All Your Popcorn Before The Movie Starts?

This week on The Sporkful, Family Food Court is back in session -- with Dan presiding.

First up: Emily and Danny in Reno (below), a married couple divided by movie popcorn. The trouble started on one of their first dates:

"[Danny] started eating before we even found a seat, and I told him 'No you have to wait until the movie starts,'" Emily says. "He looked at me like 'who the hell are you?'"

Danny says popcorn is there to entertain you while you wait for the show to start, but Emily argues it should accompany the movie. The trouble is, Danny finishes most of the popcorn before the show starts -- leaving Emily with the buttery dregs.

Will this young marriage survive to see another blockbuster? Listen in to the full episode to hear Dan's movie popcorn verdict. (Hint: Deepak Chopra makes a cameo!)

In the second half of the show, a mother and daughter call in for help settling a decades-long feud about salad dressing. Mary in Brooklyn (below right) refuses to dress her salad; her mom, Carol from Long Island (below left), is worried her daughter is missing on an essential eating experience:

"Salad dressing – if it’s a good one – really makes a good salad better," Carol says. "So I’m sorry that she’s missing out on that deliciousness."

But Mary argues that life without salad dressing is simpler and less stressful -- especially in restaurants, where salad dressing options can be unpredictable.

"I feel like I would have had a slightly higher anxiety [level]...in restaurants," Mary says. "They list five dressings and none of it is what I wanted."

Can Dan help these two salad lovers bury the hatchet and learn to accept their different stances on dressing? Listen in to the full episode to hear how this condiment conflict shakes out.
