When I traveled to Israel recently, I decided to conduct a taste test between the burgers at an Israeli McDonald's and those at Burger Ranch, the main Israeli fast food burger chain, which has been around since 1972. Cheeseburgers are verboten at both establishments, because mixing meat and dairy violates kosher rules. So that's a strike against the burgers across the board, but at least it's a level playing field. Burger Ranch follows the international blueprint for fast food restaurant decor, but their burgers are better than the norm, because they're cooked to order. And at least in the case of my burger, they're left ever-so-slightly pink inside (see photo), which is more than you can say for McDonald's, or most fast food burgers anywhere. Verdict: By fast food standards, Burger Ranch offered an above average product.
