Donut Wars: Episode Exposes Sibling Rift

The Sporkful

Sam in Oklahoma says the recent donut episode highlighted an ongoing quarrel in his family. He also says we didn't make a rigorous enough case for the yeast donut:

The donut episode (which is presently in my top two) began a rather interesting argument between myself and my brother (who happens to be the guy you quoted on the show), primarily over my dislike of coffee and the dunking thereof. When I put a donut in any liquid, I basically baptize it. My donuts are a thoroughly religious experience. Now I would like to represent the yeast donut briefly, as I believe that it needs a bit of lobby. I understand your opinions and your reasoning, I just want to give my two cents:

My pros for the yeast:
1: Light and fluffy
2: Tastes great in its ordinary form
3: There is a fairly consistent recipe for the donut

My cons for the cake:
1: A little heavy for me - makes me feel as if I ate an entire piglet
2: I have always found them dry
3: Not jelly friendly

My brother is in the cake donut camp. Sibling rivalry is the spice of life sometimes.

I'm pretty jealous of Sam, now that I know he once ate an entire piglet. Yum! We're rolling out another donut episode soon. Let us know if we spark any other family quarrels. /mark
