Comment Sommelier: Popcorn Reactions

The Sporkful
We're hearing a lot on the recent on popcorn and the related etiquette, here on the blog, as well as on the FB page and our inbox. Many of you are weighing in on microwave popcorn at work. Marjorie's stance is firm:

It is SO wrong. It stinks to high heaven, and thats when it's _not_burned. So so much worse when the dumbwit who is making it sets the micro on for too long and walks away.

Ditto Jessica:

Popcorn, like many other things, should be done only alone and in the confines of one's home.

The stain of unauthorized office popping can last for years, as Heather learned when she nuked a bag at a campus job:

It turned into a serious issue. Memos were issued, staff meetings were called, signs were posted... To this day - nearly 20 years later! - the university employees still talk about it, it was THAT BIG OF A DEAL.

Zoe doesn't see what all the fuss is about:

I never would've considered whether this is bad form, although I also eat Indian food in my office, not to mention stinky cheeses, so I guess I'm a self-centered eater.

We're also hearing from folks weighing in on their favorite popcorn poppers. The Whirley Pop has especially passionate defenders. I haven't tried one, but the hand crank design looks like a smart (and really fun) way to make stovetop popping easier.

We love hearing from y'all - keep talking back to us! /mg
