Kebab Kwandary — Advice Needed

The Sporkful

Sporkful listener Mike in Queens, NY, writes:

I have trouble eating kabobs.  My problem is I don't know how best to
eat them. Does one hold the kabob horizontally, grabbing each end of
the stick and eat it like one would corn-on-the-cob?  The problem here
is you have to gauge small bite sizes, lest you risk grabbing
splinters with your teeth.  The other way is to hold the kabob
vertically, grabbing the dull end of the stick and biting off each
item from the top of the stick -- a green pepper, a chuck of chicken,
an onion slice.  This works well until, of course, you get to the
middle of the stick, where you will inevitably stab the roof of your
mouth at least once trying to slide off the items located at the
center of stick.  When I flip it over, holding the pointed end and
sliding the items off from the opposite end, the stick has a tendency
to splinter, given that I am now sliding against the grain.

Any advice out there for Mike?
