Pumpkin Pie Pop-Tarts Tested

Pumpkin Pie Pop-Tarts Tested
Friends of the Sporkful Dennis and Cindy recently acquired a box of Pumpkin Pie Pop-Tarts for testing purposes, a "limited edition" flavor that we think just might be a direct response to one of our Pop-Tart experiments in one of our recent Slate videos. The timing was perfect, since we're in the midst of a highly pumpkinized period of Sporkful. My taste test consisted of one toasted and one untoasted. Pics after the jump.

The taste is barely distinguishable from the frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon. There's some pumpkin flavor and a hint of ginger. But sugar and cinnamon dominate. When I eat Pop-Tarts, which is really rarely, I don't often toast them. But here I did, and I actually ended up liking them better that way.

And as for appearance, don't expect the same Fall colors consistency in the sprinkles that the box promises. Mine came out of the wrapper with mostly generic sprinkle colors. Overall, I'm glad they're putting different flavors out there, but I'd rather they'd make more effort to make them truly distinctive. And by the way, as we know from MSNBC's Rachel Maddow, prepare with care, as these things are flammable. /mark
